Round 3 - Watergate Bay - 11 Julho

"More rain for Round 3 of the UKSRL VB Summer Series at Watergate Bay held on the 11th July with a 6ft clean but building swell. Everyone knows the deal with the VB Summer Series..........it's about consistency and in surf making the right decisions at the right time and some luck."

"Two crews from London made the long journey to Watergate Bay. Mike Dowell's Twickenham Tridents fresh from rowing at Henley Royal Regatta felt they had the fire power to take on the current leaders Porthtowan Blue Bali."

"Conditions worsened on the low tide bank with a heavy inside break and crews had to work hard to get out and back without incident. The mens crews made it look easy. In the the 3rd Round for the Womens heat we were now down to three crews. All made it out but on the way back the Rebel Angels missed two waves and were now in the impact zone with a set wave building behind them. "Nothing for it ladies we have got row across this bank asap" (that's my polite version), with that the boat was picked up by the next wave and a very heavy wipeout and rollover was the result. Everyone took a hammering but Shelley Hardwick stroke of the Rebel Angels took the worst and ended up with 11 stitches in a broken nose"

Começa amanhã...

É amanhã que começa a minha época de remador este ano! Mas será de remador de surf, de ondas ou de mar, como lhe queiram chamar. Amanhã irei até ao clube de remo de Twickenham para tirar os bancos do barco de Surfboat e colocar-lhe calhas e slides. Vamos começar a preparar uma equipa para competir nas 6 ou 7 provas que há de Surfboat no Reino Unido. Mas como o frio ainda aperta e a praia está longe, vamos começar por remar no rio.

Nesta fase deverá ser só ao fim de semana. Durante a semana cada um trata do seu fisico. As provas só começam em Junho e embora a condição fisica seja importante, ainda não há a intensidade que me habituei ao longo de anos no remo em Portugal. De qualquer modo, espero conseguir caminhar para um ritmo de treino quase diário. Como se pode imaginar, estar em forma e melhorá-la é sempre bom e sabe bem.

Para Abril/Maio espero já termos mudado as calhas pelos bancos e fazer uns treinos na praia. Provavelmente será em Bournemouth, a 1h30m a sul de Londres. Não há ondas, ou pelos ainda não as apanhei, mas dá para remar no mar, treinar entradas e viragens. Se tudo correr bem, uns treinos em ondas também deverão ter lugar. Mas como a equipa deverá ter a sua experiência em ondas, acho mais importante treinar o fisico, o ritmo do barco, as entradas e viragens.

E deste modo também vou tendo um objectivo que me fará treinar mais e melhor. E quem sabe ainda ganha uma formazinha para ir até Montemor em Junho, ao Nacional.

Para os interessados, o Campeonato do Mundo e Europeu será de novo em Biarritz a 5 e 6 de Setembro. Se tudo correr bem haverá uma (ou mais!?) equipa portuguesa a competir. As inscrições estão abertas e para beneficiar de um (grande) desconto, terão de ser efectuadas e pagas até final de Fevereiro. Alguém quer vir? Bom tempo, ondas, competição, boa disposição, festa e sol estão nas previsões!
